The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to enhance its collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for mutual benefits.

During a recent working visit, Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat, Abdullahi Suleiman Ango, received a delegation from JICA, led by Professor Wataru Yamazaki, the agency’s Country Representative in Nigeria.

Ango praised the existing partnership between the FCTA and JICA, expressing optimism about taking it to new heights. He emphasized that as Nigeria’s capital, the FCT deserves top-tier services, particularly in critical sectors such as veterinary services.

He assured the delegation of the FCT Administration’s commitment, under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, to support initiatives that align with the vision of making Abuja one of the world’s best capital cities.

“The current FCT leadership is prioritizing infrastructural development, not just in the city center but across all six Area Councils,” Ango noted. “Having recently assumed office, I am keen on strengthening our collaboration with JICA to further transform the agricultural sub-sector,” he added.

Professor Yamazaki expressed gratitude for the warm reception and outlined JICA’s plans to train FCT veterinary doctors. He explained that the visit aims to develop a tailored training manual in partnership with the Secretariat’s Veterinary Services Department, focusing on modern abattoir management and global best practices.
