The President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has pledged the full support of the National Assembly for the ongoing efforts to modernize the Nigerian military and strengthen the country’s security architecture.
Speaking during a meeting with top military officials in Abuja, Akpabio emphasized the need for Nigeria to equip its armed forces with modern tools, technology, and training to effectively respond to contemporary security challenges.
“We are committed to ensuring that our military remains one of the most capable on the continent,” Akpabio said. “The Senate will continue to support legislative frameworks and budgetary provisions that enable military innovation, capacity building, and welfare enhancement for our troops.”
He also praised the armed forces for their dedication in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats across various regions of the country, adding that their sacrifices will not go unnoticed.
Akpabio’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria faces increasing pressure to overhaul its defence strategy, boost local military production, and improve collaboration with international partners on security matters.
