In a major move to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of over 8,800 new Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the country.

The bold initiative aims to significantly expand access to basic healthcare services, particularly in underserved and rural communities. In addition to the new PHCs, existing tertiary healthcare institutions are set for a comprehensive upgrade to enhance their capacity in trauma care, oncology, and infectious disease control.

This development forms part of the administration’s broader health sector reform agenda, geared toward ensuring quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all Nigerians.

With this approval, the Federal Government is expected to work closely with state and local governments to ensure swift implementation, improve healthcare delivery outcomes, and bolster national preparedness for health emergencies.
