300 Golfers Set for 2025 IBB Captain’s Cup in Abuja

Abuja, Nigeria – April 5, 2025

Over 300 golfers from across Nigeria are expected to participate in the 2025 IBB Captain’s Cup golf tournament, scheduled to take place from April 7 to 12 at the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

The event will mark the final tournament under the leadership of Ibrahim Babayo, the outgoing captain of the club, who is set to bow out next month.

Speaking to journalists, Babayo expressed his excitement and satisfaction with the progress made during his tenure since assuming office in 2024.

“I’m filled with happiness with all we’ve achieved. The improvements and innovations we’ve made to the golf course are things I hope to be remembered for,” he said.

Ambassador Ben Okoyen, Chairman of the Organising Committee, emphasized that the six-day tournament will showcase several new innovations and enhancements to the club.

“Abuja is Nigeria’s capital, and this club should reflect that status by competing with the best golf clubs in the world,” he said.
“We are fully prepared, and I want to assure all participants that the course is safe and ready.”

Ashir Tarfa, Secretary of the Committee, confirmed that the event will include both amateur and professional categories.

“Over 300 golfers will hit Abuja for the 2025 Captain’s Cup. Everything is in place to ensure a smooth and successful tournament,” he said.

He also revealed that N5 million in prize money will be awarded to the top 10 professional golfers.

The 2025 Captain’s Cup promises not only a high level of competition but also a celebration of leadership, sportsmanship, and the continued growth of golf in Nigeria’s capital.
