Abuja, Nigeria – April 2, 2025

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, will remain unchanged at N860 per litre in most states and N880 per litre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

This decision comes amid growing concerns over fuel price fluctuations and their impact on transportation, businesses, and the general cost of living. Despite speculation about a possible price increase, NNPCL has assured Nigerians that there will be no immediate adjustments.

The retained price, though high, has provided some relief to consumers who feared further hikes due to the volatile exchange rate and global crude oil market trends. However, many Nigerians continue to struggle with the rising cost of fuel, which has contributed to inflation and increased transportation costs nationwide.

A commercial driver in Abuja, Mr. John Uchenna, expressed his concerns:
“Even though the price hasn’t gone up, N880 per litre is still too much. Transport fares remain high, and passengers are finding it difficult to cope.”

Meanwhile, businesses that rely on fuel for operations, particularly in areas with unstable electricity supply, continue to face challenges in managing production costs.

NNPCL has reiterated its commitment to ensuring steady fuel supply across the country, dismissing fears of scarcity. The company also urged Nigerians to avoid panic buying, emphasizing that the current pricing structure is being maintained to stabilize the market.

Industry analysts believe that while the price remains unchanged for now, future adjustments may depend on factors such as the exchange rate, global crude oil prices, and government policies on fuel subsidy removal.

As Nigerians adjust to the current pricing realities, many are calling for government interventions to ease the burden, including increased investment in local refining capacity and alternative energy sources to reduce dependence on imported fuel.
