The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has renovated a hall at Government Secondary School, Wuse – Zone 3, Abuja, as part of its ‘Customs Cares Initiative’, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program benefiting about 1,300 students.
As part of the initiative, the NCS also installed CCTV cameras and solar-powered streetlights in and around the school and began renovating the auditorium.
Speaking at the event, Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized that the program is a way of giving back to society and making a positive impact.
“The Customs Cares Initiative represents our commitment to inclusive growth and sustainable development in the communities we serve,” he said.
He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing first on education.
Supporting the initiative, Dr. George Kelly, Executive Secretary of the Border Communities Development Agency, awarded scholarships to the 10 best graduating students of the school to support their tertiary education.
Dr. Danlami Hayyo, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Education Secretariat, praised the NCS for its contributions to education. Represented by Mrs. Joy Chinwe Okeke, Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat, he encouraged other organizations to invest in the future of young Nigerians.
“We appreciate the Nigeria Customs Service for this impactful initiative. Partnerships like this strengthen our education system and improve learning experiences for our children,” he said.
This initiative highlights the NCS’s commitment to improving education, enhancing security, and supporting students across Nigeria.
