Wike Orders Quick Land Allocation for Gishiri Evacuees
FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has directed that land be allocated within one week for residents displaced by the Gishiri road construction.
This follows the removal of 455 structures in the Katampe District of Abuja to make way for the N16 arterial road.
During a visit to the community on Wednesday, Wike assured affected residents of swift compensation and relocation. His visit came after complaints that some people were assigned unsuitable plots and offered very low compensation—some as little as ₦72,000.
In response, Wike ordered a 100% increase in compensation payments, doubling the amount to ₦144,000. Officials clarified that this amount was originally valued for a local clay barn used for farm produce storage.
“I give you one week. Allocate the land to the affected persons. If it’s not enough, we will find another option,” Wike instructed.
He also ordered immediate payment to the affected residents and warned community leaders that land would not be given unless they accepted the compensation.
“If you don’t take the money, I won’t give you the land. Collect your money so you can start developing the land,” he added.
The FCT Administration has earmarked two resettlement sites:
- A 12-hectare area with 58 plots near Hope for Survival Orphanage.
- A 1.7-hectare site with five plots, behind Local Education Authority Primary School in Gishiri.
Authorities are expected to act within the given timeframe to ensure smooth resettlement.
