NFF Breaks Ground on Players’ Hostel and Training Pitches in Abuja

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is enhancing its infrastructure with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new players’ hostel and training pitches in Abuja today. NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau will lead the event, accompanied by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

The NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel will feature 68 rooms, located at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, directly opposite the NFF Secretariat. It will include 62 single rooms, four suites, and two executive suites.

In addition to the hostel, the project will construct two new training pitches—one synthetic and one natural grass. The existing synthetic pitch will be reconstructed, and there will be seating for 1,838 spectators, along with dressing rooms for players and officials.

This initiative is funded by FIFA through its Forward 3.0 programme, with construction expected to last 24 months. The programme aims to improve football infrastructure globally and ensure effective investment management.

Gusau expressed excitement about the project, stating it will enhance team management and reduce costs, allowing for greater investment in grassroots development.

FIFA’s Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer, Gelson Fernandes, praised the NFF’s commitment to upgrading facilities. He emphasized the programme’s goal of supporting football development worldwide.

The ceremony will also host notable government officials and former international players, including Olusegun Odegbami, Jay Jay Okocha, and Nwankwo Kanu.
