The Regent Secondary School in Abuja, Nigeria, has made history as the first and only secondary school in Nigeria and West Africa to receive an ‘Outstanding’ rating across all nine categories in the British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection. Commissioned by the UK Department for Education (DfE) and conducted by Penta International, this inspection places the school among the world’s top international institutions.

The evaluation covered key areas such as the quality of education, student welfare, leadership, and boarding facilities. Inspectors praised the school’s “broad, innovative, and child-centred” curriculum, noting that 98% of students achieve A*-C grades at IGCSE, with nearly half earning A* or A grades. The report also commended the school’s strong values—Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness—highlighting its exceptional student development, safety measures, and pastoral care.

Principal Mr. Philip Reynolds described this achievement as a defining milestone, emphasizing the school’s commitment to excellence, teamwork, and continuous improvement. The Regent Secondary School’s success follows that of its sister institution, The Regent Primary School, which became the first and only primary school in West Africa to achieve an Outstanding BSO inspection in 2023.

Adding to its accolades, the school received top recognition at the 2024 Cambridge Awards for producing the highest number of awardees in Nigeria. This achievement reflects the dedication of students, staff, parents, and leadership, all working together to foster a thriving, world-class learning environment.
