Abuja, Nigeria – Pupils at LEA Primary School Gasaki in Karshi Ward of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and LEA Primary School Gosa 1 are facing dire learning conditions due to the lack of basic infrastructure. With over 600 students affected, the schools remain in a deplorable state, lacking essential facilities such as desks, classrooms, security, and toilets.
Reports indicate that students are forced to sit on bare floors under leaking roofs, exposing them to harsh weather conditions. Teachers also struggle to conduct lessons effectively in overcrowded and poorly maintained classrooms, further worsening the quality of education.
Parents and community members have voiced their concerns over the negligence and deteriorating state of the schools. “Our children deserve better. They cannot learn in these conditions,” lamented a concerned parent.
Educational stakeholders have called on the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and relevant government agencies to urgently address the infrastructure crisis in these schools. They stress that a conducive learning environment is essential for the academic success and well-being of pupils.
As the situation worsens, appeals are being made for immediate intervention, including the provision of desks, proper classroom structures, security measures, and sanitation facilities. Without prompt action, the future of these children remains uncertain, and the goal of quality education for all in the FCT could be severely hindered.
