Hon. Joshua Obika Donates Medical Supplies to Improve Healthcare in FCT
In a bid to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Joshua Obika, the lawmaker representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, has donated essential medical supplies to select hospitals in the region.
The donation was received in Abuja by Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES), who praised Obika’s generosity. She emphasized that such initiatives highlight the vital role of lawmakers in advancing social welfare and improving healthcare accessibility.
“Today is a great example of an individual fulfilling his civic duty, and it deserves commendation,” Fasawe stated. “This donation ensures that residents of AMAC and Bwari have better access to affordable and quality healthcare.”
Presenting the supplies, Obika stressed the importance of public-private partnerships in closing healthcare funding gaps and enhancing service delivery.
“Healthcare remains a top priority in my legislative agenda, alongside education and rural infrastructure,” he said.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing him as a leader with a proven track record in public service and infrastructural development.
As part of his commitment to recognizing excellence, Obika announced plans to honor outstanding medical professionals and top-performing hospital directors in the FCT at the end of the year.
Additionally, he personally donated ₦500,000 to Dr. Yibala Alpama Edimek, who recently emerged as the overall best candidate in the Fellowship Examination of the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), as an incentive for medical excellence.
The donated medical items, including surgical supplies, gloves, gowns, eyeglasses, urological catheters, thyroid drapes, and blood pressure cuffs, were distributed to Kubwa General Hospital, Gwarimpa General Hospital, and Maitama General Hospital.
The event was attended by the Acting Director General of the FCT Hospital Management Board, Dr. Olugbenga Bello, along with several hospital directors.
Abuja Digest reports that this generous contribution not only strengthens the FCT healthcare sector but also serves as a call to action for more stakeholders to support medical infrastructure and services.
