The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has partnered with Italy’s Lombardy Regional Government to establish a vocational training center in Abuja and modernize agriculture.

Speaking on his return from Italy, Wike highlighted that the agreement would create jobs, equip youths with valuable skills, and boost the FCT’s economy. He described the visit as highly productive and expressed gratitude to the Lombardy government for its support.

  • A vocational training center will be set up in Abuja to train young people in essential skills.
  • Mechanized agriculture initiatives will be introduced to create employment and strengthen the local economy.
  • The deal aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, which aims to attract foreign investments and boost national development.

Wike emphasized the importance of international collaborations in driving economic growth. He stated:

“Our visit was very fruitful. We signed a memorandum of understanding with Lombardy to establish a vocational center in the FCT. This will train our youths in skill acquisition and introduce mechanized agriculture to create jobs and improve our economy. I appreciate the Lombardy government for this cooperation.”

The minister also noted that President Tinubu’s international engagements are focused on strengthening Nigeria’s economy through global partnerships.

“If you look at Mr. President’s travels, they aim to build relationships with other nations and attract investments. With this agreement, we expect more investors to come into the country.”

Last week, Wike met with the President of the Lombardy Regional Government, Attilio Fontana, in Italy. Fontana assured him of his government’s commitment to supporting vocational education in Abuja. As part of the agreement, youths from Abuja will also have the opportunity to receive training in Lombardy.
