
The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) has intensified its effort to maintain the sanctity of the Abuja masterplan, through effectively checkmating the activities of illegal developers and proactively monitor contraventions across various Districts in the Federal Capital City (FCC) of Abuja.
To this end, the AMMC has constituted a Building Contravention Task Force, to further mitigate unauthorized developments, by
complementing the activities of the Department of Development Control.
The Taskforce was recently inaugurated by the AMMC Coordinator, Chief Felix Obuah, in Wuse District, Abuja.
Obuah, who was represented by the Director of Development Control, Tpl Mukhtar Galadima, noted that the Task Force will liaise with relevant departments of FCTA and professional bodies in addressing multifaceted cases of building plan contravention within the FCC.
He added that it will also tap into existing private sector driven tools in monitoring and enforcement exercise towards strengthening existing fame work as same by Department of Development Control.
He therefore charged the Taskforce to immediately identify all on-going developments within the FCC, and ascertain their level of compliance with their respective approved building plans.
He also urged the Taskforce to also analyse the extent of non compliance if any and to initiate enforcement actions as well as penalties in consonance with Development Control guidelines and standards.
He adds: “The body is expected to initiate appropriate enforcement actions such as payment of Contravention fees, withdrawal of approval, re-submission for consideration and approval or total removal of structures.”
Obuah however, explained that the Task Force is not a parallel Department of Development Control but a complimentary body that has a time line.
According to him, the Task Force is to conduct a regular monitoring of all Districts in Federal Capital City and establish level of compliance to the extant approved building plan.
He enjoined the Task Force to examine identified area of violations and issue contravention notices, in line with Development Control guidelines.
Responding, the Task Force Chairman, Engr. Osah Gabriel Azunuka, who spoke on behalf of members, thanked the Council for considering them worthy to serve and contribute to the city development.

He therefore, pledged their collective commitment to satisfactorily deliver on the mandate of the Taskforce.
It was gathered that other members include; Tpl Mohammed Zayyanu, Arch Muhammad Abubakar, Bldr. Jerome Ugboho, Daniel Joseph (Qs), Tpl. Bello Yinka, Yusuf Godwin, Bldr. Timothy Kenji, Engr Ugochukwu Anyanwu, Godwin Alkali, and Silas Agbidi.
Others are; Wiki Awasak, Nzelu Evelyn Nwanneka, Engr. Ibrahim Muhammed Hadi, Tpl. Jamila Shehu Bello, Tpl. Sadiq Ahmad, Nnadi Ike, Dr. Momoh Gabriel, and Engr. Adamu Sidi Ali.
