The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed social media reports claiming that 79 terrorists are present in the Lugbe area of Abuja, labeling the information as false and misleading.

Amid rising security concerns in the Federal Capital Territory, the police reassured residents that there is no intelligence supporting such claims.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, debunked the viral message—widely circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms—describing it as a deliberate attempt to incite panic and disrupt peace in the city.

“The Nigeria Police Force has been alerted to a false and misleading message alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe area and announcing a curfew. This claim is entirely untrue and should be disregarded,” the statement read.

The police further clarified that security assessments and intelligence reports had found no evidence of terrorist activity in Lugbe or its environs.

“The message, falsely attributed to ‘ACP Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Police Command Headquarters, Abuja,’ is a fabrication. It was created by individuals intent on spreading fear and tension in the FCT,” the statement added.

Authorities urged the public to rely only on verified information from official sources, such as the police force’s social media channels, and cautioned against sharing unverified security alerts that could cause unnecessary alarm.

Reaffirming their commitment to the safety and security of all residents in the FCT and across the country, the Nigeria Police Force encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
