El-Rufai’s Absence from APC NEC Meeting Was His Personal Choice – Felix Morka

Abuja, Nigeria – February 27, 2025

The spokesperson of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has clarified that the absence of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting was a personal decision.

Speaking to reporters after the high-profile gathering in Abuja, Morka dismissed speculations linking El-Rufai’s absence to any internal crisis within the party. He stated that the former governor was not compelled to attend and that his decision to stay away should not be misinterpreted.

“El-Rufai’s absence was purely a personal choice. There is no controversy or issue regarding his relationship with the party. The NEC meeting proceeded as scheduled, and party matters were discussed effectively,” Morka said.

The APC NEC meeting, which was attended by key stakeholders, including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and several state governors, focused on the party’s strategies ahead of the next election cycle.

El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the APC, has remained relatively silent on party matters in recent months, fueling speculations about his political future. However, sources close to him insist that he remains a committed member of the ruling party.

As the APC navigates internal dynamics ahead of upcoming elections, political analysts suggest that the absence of influential figures like El-Rufai could be a sign of shifting alliances within the party.
