Legally Affected Structures During Abuja Road Construction to Receive Compensation
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that all legally affected structures during the course of road construction in Abuja will be duly compensated. He made this commitment during an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects across the capital territory.
During the tour, Wike visited the construction site of the access road from Ring Road 1 by N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) to Judges’ Quarters, including internal roads within the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, Abuja. He lauded the progress observed at various project sites, highlighting the efficient use of funds and the dedication of contractors.
I’m quite impressed with the speed of work by the various contractors, particularly those carrying out road construction Julius Berger CGC, as we saw. Quite impressive. I believe that we are going to meet up like they promised by May this year, Wike stated.
The Minister also commended the advancements in the Judges Quarters, acknowledging the significant progress made in projects undertaken by the FCT, the Federal High Court, and the Court of Appeal. He emphasized that proper financial management plays a crucial role in ensuring contractors deliver quality work within the stipulated timeline.
Compensation for Affected Structures
Addressing concerns regarding compensation for properties affected by the road construction projects, Wike confirmed that payments have been made for structures impacted by the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to Wasa District and the Life Camp to Dei-Dei road projects.
The Department of Resettlement and Compensation has confirmed that compensation for structures along the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) to Wasa has been completed. Similarly, compensation for the Life Camp to Dei-Dei road project has also been settled, Wike announced.
He further disclosed that compensation for affected structures in Gishiri Village near the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe is currently being processed and is expected to be finalized by the end of the week, with funds already allocated.
The one at Gishiri they are talking about 500 meters. We believe that before the end of the week, we will have settled that area. We are already paying the compensation. The funds have been made available,” he added.
Waste Management in Satellite Towns
In addition to infrastructure development, Wike addressed the government’s commitment to improving waste management services, particularly in satellite towns. He revealed that the selection process for competent contractors responsible for waste management is nearing completion.
“We are almost done with the selection of the contractors that will be carrying out the waste management. I believe in the next one week, we will have selected those who are competent and we think can deliver,” the Minister stated.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) continues to prioritize infrastructural development and efficient urban management, ensuring that affected individuals are compensated and essential services are enhanced across Abuja.
