To promote standard of education in the Federal Capital Territory, the National Library of Nigeria has organized Annual Inter-School Quiz Competition where Junior Secondary School, Apo Resettlement emerged the overall winner.
Accordingly, the academic competition, which was themed: ‘Reading without boundaries: A Renewed Hope’, is aimed at imbibing the reading culture at an early age.
Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Director of Public Services Division, National Library, Abuja branch, Mrs. Rachel Naboh, said that promoting quiz competition for schools is a strategic plan aimed at stimulating a strong reading culture among students.
Naboh, who revealed that nine schools across Federal Capital Territory (FCT), participated in the just concluded competition, featured three major areas, which include: reading competition, impromptu speeches, and Drop Everything And Read Sessions (DEARs).
She urged the students to overcome distractions and cultivate effective reading habits; noting that this will foster creativity, emotional intelligence and National Development.
Also speaking at the occasion, Prof Doris Obiaji, emphasized the importance of reading as a lifelong activity and encouraged students to embrace it as a tool for continuous learning and personal development.
Her words: “Reading is one of the most powerful tools that helps in personal development. It’s like opening a door to endless opportunities, knowledge, and new perspectives.”
Obiaji further highlighted the benefits of reading, which she said include helping one to travel to distant places, experience different cultures, and dive into the minds of great thinkers, all from the comfort of ones space.
