The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will train 6,000 youth in the Territory annually, once the FCT Youth Centre Nyanya is renovated.
The Mandate Secretary, Federal Capital Territory,(FCT), Youth Development Secretariat, (FCT-YDS), Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman-Ango, who made this disclosure at the youth stakeholders’ engagement at Kuje Area Council, said it is in tune with NyesomWike’s unwavering commitment towards youth empowerment.
His words: “We will be able to train 6,000 FCT Youth, at the FCT Youth Centre, Nyanya, in various skills, once the centre is renovated, in line with the FCT Administration’s unwavering commitment towards youth empowerment in the Territory.”
Accordingly, the youth stakeholders’ engagementwhich involved the youth leaders and representatives of youth organizations across the six Area Council was in response to the yearnings and aspirations of the teeming population of FCT youth currently faced with unemployment and biting economic challenges.
The Mandate Secretary reiterated that empowerment is one of the core mandates of the newly created Youth Development Secretariat and he will everything to turn around things for the better.
“We all know that the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, is truly passionate about providing strong support and enabling environment that will ensure that FCT youth realize their full potentials and also be able to meaningfully contribute towards national development,” Suleiman-Ango said.
“His commitment towards building the youth for the future and not building the future for the youth was demonstrated in the establishment of the Youth Development Secretariat and appointing me from the youth constituency, to head it, is a clear proof of his readiness to support FCT youth to flourish,” the Mandate Secretary restated.
According to him, “I am truly optimistic that the Minister will help us to renovate the youth support centre, which was opened in February 2013, by the then First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan. Once, the centre is renovated, we will be able to train 6,000 FCT youths, annually in different skills.”
Responding, Comrade Dan-Pulo Kuje thanked the Mandate Secretary for engaging with the youth in the Territory and hopes for a further sustainable engagements in the future.
He urged the Mandate Secretary to use his good office to reduce the marginalization of FCT youths in appointments and employment opportunities into Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
