The Federal Capital Territory Administration has pledged to maintain the long existing standard of education across schools in the territory.
The Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre, Dr. Neemat Abdulrahim, gave this assurance at the Gifted School, Gwagwalada, Abuja, while inspecting 466 candidates that sat for screening test for admission.
She said the examination was conducted for candidates from various public and private schools in FCT to assess and offer admission strictly to those who meet the necessary requirements.
Abdulrahim disclosed that the candidate from the public schools to be considered for admission must have obtained 8 ‘A’s, while 9 ‘A’s for candidates from private schools in their Basic Education Certificate Examinations, BECE.
She revealed that the essence of the screening test is to thoroughly evaluate the candidates that would be admitted into Gifted school, Gwagwalada.
“This will ascertain their grades in their previous certificates, to select the best out of the candidates that sat for the screening test and to further test their capability before being considered for admission into the school.”
Abdurahim also disclosed that for a student to qualify for the screening test, the candidate must score an average of 70percent, while the cut-off point is determined by the performance of the candidates that sat for the examinations in a particular academic year.
She further revealed that the 466 candidates from public and private schools who sat for the examinations are competing for the 300 available space in the school.
