Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has assured that the upcoming Africa Military Games, scheduled for November in Abuja, will highlight Nigeria’s security advancements and boost economic activities.

“This event will showcase Abuja to the world, proving that the city and Nigeria are safe and ready to host international events. People often form impressions from afar without firsthand experience, but I believe they will leave with a different narrative,” Wike said while receiving the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, in Abuja.

The minister emphasised FCT administration’s full commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure the success of the event without any security challenges, stressing: “We are working with security agencies to make sure the games go smoothly. Security is a priority, and we’re expediting all necessary measures. This is an international event, and we cannot afford any embarrassment,”

Wike commended the CDS and security forces for their efforts in maintaining the safety of Abuja and further assured that the Federal Capital Authority is dedicated to providing resources, logistics, and any specific assistance needed to guarantee the success of the games.

He noted that security preparations are well underway, with vehicles and resources already approved, while stressing the importance of expediting certain procurement processes to avoid delays. “No effort will be spared to ensure there are no security threats during the event. Nigeria must ensure that this international game runs without disruption,” he concluded, recognising the steady progress in reducing insurgency nationwide and commending the security forces for their commitment to safeguarding Abuja.

Earlier, the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, commended the Minister for his remarkable efforts in revitalising Abuja.

According to him, “Within a very short period of one year, things have turned around for the better in the FCT. We are not surprised because you are known for your commitment to work, especially in construction and putting things in order. The Armed Forces is here to support you in ensuring the continued growth of the FCT, free from any internal or external threats.”

He further highlighted the importance of the upcoming Africa Military Games in November, emphasizing Nigeria’s opportunity to showcase its security and hospitality on the global stage.

“This is the second edition, and Nigeria is the second country to host such a grand event. It will show the world that Abuja is safe, and Nigeria is safe. Many countries that speak negatively about Nigeria are less secure than we are. Here, the press enjoys immense freedom, which contributes to certain perceptions, but Nigeria is more secure than it’s often portrayed,” he added.

General Musa assured full military support for the event, noting that over 40 countries would participate.

“We want the Africa Military Games to be a success of the highest standard, similar to the recent Olympics in Paris. We’ve been preparing for months, with our athletes already in camp, and we’re looking forward to working closely with you to make it a world-class event. Your leadership and the support of the FCT are essential in projecting Nigeria positively to the world,” the CDS said.
