Residents of Nyanya and Karu, satellite towns in the suburbs of Abuja have showered praises on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike for awarding and directing contractors to repair and reconstruct burst pipeline conveying potable water to the areas.
The jubilant residents who sighted the contractor on site said the hardship of Karu/Nyanya would soon come to an end.
The contractor, a construction giant, Messrs CGC Nig. Ltd was seen draining the debris that had clogged the burst pipeline yesterday.
It will be recalled that Karu and Nyanya have been without potable water since September last year when there was a pipe burst along the route from Asokoro.
Mallam Yusuf Kabir lauded the FCT Minister for attending to the cries of the residents of the areas.
It was gathered that Messrs CGC Nig Ltd who won the reconstruction of the burst pipeline has moved to the site since last week.
Some of the residents who saw officials of the FCTA and some senior officers of FCT Water Board at the site commended Wike for the approval for the reconstruction of the damaged pipes.
A resident of Nyanya, Mr Joseph Ubong who showered praises on Wike recalled that he has lost count of how much he has spent on buying water from water vendors.
He said most residents besides buying Jerry can water from the vendors also have to buy sachet water popularly known as pure water for their drinking purpose.
Mrs Mary Folorunsho, a food vendor, in Karu, prayed that the contractor would speed up the repairs and restore potable water back to the zone.
She said the revenue generated by the FCT water board would increase and the idle workers would justify their salaries.
