To assist indigenous and indigent pupils and students in the Federal Capital Territory attain their educational goals at all levels, the FCT Scholarship Board has commenced the screening of the 2022/2023 Scholarship exercise.
Flagging off the exercise, the FCT Education Secretary, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, said Education remains the cornerstone of any meaningful development of the society.
Hayyo said education plays pivotal role in the growth, progress, and self development of the people and by extension the transformation of the nation.
He stated that the scholarship screening has been instituted to ensure equal access to Education as the FCT Administration provide financial aid to them to pursuit higher Education with merit.
The Secretary, however, warned against negative means in obtaining scholarship.
He noted that the scholarship is an incentive for excellence and investment in their future as well as community development with life long learning benefits to them with multiplier benefits on the society.
Hayyo urged them to be focus and be of good conduct; adding that this is a step to realizing their Educational aspirations while utilizing this opportunity to create a positive impact for themselves and larger community.
He assured them that the FCT Administration will continue to create an enabling environment where their academic pursuit and aspirations are not hindered by financial barriers.
The Education Secretary commended the Scholarship Board for putting measures in place for proper conduct of the screening of students for the scholarship award.
In her welcome remarks, the Director, FCT Scholarship Board, Mrs. Hannah David, said that the exercise is an annual activity by the Board to ensure the various academic qualifications of students are assessed for screening which is merit based.
She expressed the Board’s readiness towards coordinating and conducting a successful scholarship screening exercise for 2022/ 2023 Academic Session; stressing that all rules and regulations guiding the screening exercise will be strictly adhered to.
Some of the Students who spoke at the occasion, expressed their delight for the exercise as they look forward to be screened and cleared to fulfil their academic pursuit which will go a long way to reduce their parents financial burden.
They appreciated the FCT Administration for this life long opportunities; promising to be law abiding and be of good conduct.
The highlight of the scholarship screening exercise was the symbolic screening of a candidate by the Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, which signified its commencement with about 3,000 candidates set to be screened.
